The Community Law Service - Independent Advice Support Services

Our Aims:

Leicester Money Advice and The Community Law Service aims to provide a free, independent, confidential and quality assured money advice service to individuals with debt problems who are resident in the city of Leicester.

The Community Law Service also work in partnership with other organisations and funders for the development of money advice services in the city of Leicester and support agencies and organisations throughout the city where they are dealing with debt.

We aim to prevent homelessness through the money advice process and to seek to influence social policy issues that affect people in debt.

The services provided shall promote self-help where appropriate and offer casework support for those unable to deal with a debt crisis alone.

Our services are available to all sections of the population of Leicester City irrespective of race, gender, disability, age or means.

Our Objectives:

To provide a consultancy, support and information service to workers in

other agencies who may be assisting people in debt.

To provide a telephone advice service to individuals in debt.

To provide supporting information e.g. self-help packs, where self-help has

been identified as appropriate and to provide a face-to-face casework

service where it is deemed appropriate.

To provide representation at court hearings in debt matters where

appropriate.

To provide a daily Lay Advocacy Service at Leicester County Court to

assist unrepresented defendants in debt actions.

To effect changes in social policy through participation in the consultation

process, by debate or challenge.

To operate in a professional manner and ensure quality standards are

applied and maintained throughout all aspects of service provision.

To ensure that the Equal Opportunities Policy is applied to all aspects of

service delivery.
